Hyundai Eon and Maruti Alto K10 are the most affordable hatchbacks available in the Indian market. The newly launched car is Eon Magna+, which has dual tone interiors in beige and brown color scheme that looks pretty. The closest competitor is Alto K10, which is cheap, economical and fabby hatchback and has been ruling the market for a while now. It has good looks, huge service backup, cheap spares and good fuel economy.

Exterior:
Eon is the new & youngest member of the fluidic design family. It is smart from front with stylish headlamps, stubby nose and neatly laid out triangular fog lamps. The side profile comes with the shoulder line that flows just below the windows and slightly ends in the C-pillar. It gets body colored bumper with a wide air dam that is wide and has three stripes on it. The rear end can be described starting with the clear tail lamps which are integrated into the rear cluster of lights and look very stylish. There is a spoiler at the rear end, which gives a trendy image to this hatchback. The boot space comes with 215 litre. Talking about K10, it is based on the Alto 800 platform and shares nothing other than the roof and doors. Upfront, there are large headlamps and a new grille with chrome and the body colored bumper gets a large slated air dam with black cladding. Coming to the rear, it is plain and simple as the rest of the cars. It gets well-sculpted bumper, large taillights and a high-mount stop lamp. Overall, the new K10 looks like an older K10, but with younger and sportier aura.

Interiors:
The top trim of EON comes with an integrated music system which supports USB, Aux-In, MP3. The dash is neatly laid out with enough space for small things. The Knobs for AC are just below the music system. Driver and co-driver get bottle holder in each door. EON offers power window at the front only in the top end trim. There is no electric side view mirrors. There is a decent knee room in the rear but headroom is a little compromised. There is a good space for 3 passengers at the rear and the seats are comfortable too. Coming to its competitor, Alto K10 gets all newly refreshed interiors. Everything from the dash to the paneling has been transformed into the latest texture. Starting with the dashboard, the dual tone scheme of black and beige colors look cool. The round air-conditioning vents on either sides with silver enclosure and the trapezoidal central vents add to the premium of the interiors. The central console has also received drastic improvement and looks equally attractive with orange background color. The 3-spoke steering wheel is decorated with silver accents and beyond it, there is a stylish driver info display that gets tachometer as well. Another special thing is the presence of automatic shift lever in AMT variant that has been introduced for the first time in Alto. When it comes to the space, it has a decent space at the front, but there is a lack of legroom and headroom at the rear seat compared to EON.

Engine and Performance:
EON engine makes sound which can be clearly felt in the cabin. Engine of the car is Dual VTVT, 1.0-litre three-cylinder that produces maximum power output of 68 bhp and peak torque of 94 Nm. The all new Maruti Alto K10 is packed with 1.0-litre, 12 valve DOHC K10 petrol engine that belts out a maximum power output of 67 bhp with 90 Nm of torque. The new motor is hugely refined and the car feels zippy and nimble in handling. The AMT variant is the star attraction and is as same as Celerio. It makes driving very easy and pulling it in tight parking spaces and traffic is less frustrating. Though, the transition between gears could be felt, however, it is something that could be ignored easily. The steering feels pretty inconsistent when left freely but handles well as soon as you grab it.

Verdict:
The overall material used in the EON doesn't feel Hyundai which is known for quality features. It does not give premium feel in the cabin and there is no much safety.
Alto K10 also comes up as a nice car for city rides. It is adequately peppy to drive in the city, also gets a light steering wheel. It is fuel efficient car, but same as EON it is also lacking on safety features like ABS, airbags. All in all, both the cars are perfect for a short family.
