An impressive drum solo by Corby Purple Star Flute Band. The video was taken at the Central Club in Blackpool following the Orange Order parade in Carlisle.
Corby Purple Star Flute Band was formed in 1968 by Archie McPhie. Corby was originally a small village in Rockingham Forest, but soon expanded, spawning huge housing estates, as a result of the steel industry. The town suffered from the collapse of the steel trade, and then from the 80s recession.
Today the town centre is undergoing redevelopment and the town is diversifying its industry once again.
The most lasting contribution of the steel industry to Corby today is the people. Large numbers of Scots settled in Corby to work in the industry, and even today children can grow up in Corby speaking with a Scottish accent. Corby has a number of Churches, a Church of Scotland and a very large Glasgow Rangers Supporters' Club!
