This is the raw, unedited footage of the moment Hurricane Helene took my 70-year-old family home in Green River Cove, NC. At 8:30 AM, the water was halfway up the windows. By 8:33 AM, the house was moving.

I stood on the high ground and watched as the river claimed everything—my home, my gear, and the land my grandmother, Grandma Katie, left to me. I even put a new roof on that house this winter. This video documents the heartbreaking reality of the flood, the "lesson of impermanence" as I narrate the loss in real-time, and the carnage of seeing neighbors' new homes floating downstream alongside mine.

Recovery is slow, and the "red tape" is thick. I am currently living in Ecuador as a "hard reset" because it is cheaper than surviving the winter in a tent in NC. I am a humble river guide and dirtbag looking for a reason to come back home. I lost pretty much everything in the enormous flood Helene caused. Living on a tight budget proves you don't need to be wealthy to live a rich life, even when you are starting over from zero. This video serves as a permanent record of what was lost.
