To get the sum and product of the roots of a quadratic equation we first have to make sure that the equation is quadratic and that it is of the form ax2 + bx + c = 0. If not we first need to transform it by transposing all the terms to the right side.
Meaning all those terms that are on the left must be transferred to the right side so that the left term will be equal to zero. Once it is of the form ax2 + bx + c = 0, get the sum and product of the roots.
The formula for the sum of the roots is x1 + x2 = -b/a and the product of the roots is x1.x2 = c/a.
