What Happens to Space at the Planck Scale?

In school, we were told that the Planck length is the smallest possible length in the Universe. But that’s not exactly true. The problem isn’t that “nothing smaller exists.” The real problem is that the physics we know simply stops working there.
In this video, we’ll push the limits and imagine what would happen if we tried to probe scales smaller than the Planck length. It turns out that any attempt to measure such distances would turn a photon into a black hole. Spacetime itself would break down, and smooth geometry would dissolve into a boiling quantum foam of flashing micro black holes, tunnels, and quantum defects.
We’ll move from familiar physics to the extreme frontier where quantum field theory fails and general relativity gives up. Why wouldn’t even a galaxy-sized particle accelerator help us see deeper? Why does the very act of measurement create gravity that hides the result? And how is it that quantum mechanics and gravity both point to the same forbidden limit?
This is a journey to the edge of what we can meaningfully call “the Universe” — and into a realm of physics we don’t yet have.
