ABOUT THIS UNIQUE EVENT
The Da Hui Backdoor Shootout is not a traditional surf contest. No person-versus-person heats. There’s eight shortboard teams with five surfers, each of which gets to surf the same amount of time over the waiting period at Pipe and Backdoor. The goal: get as barreled as possible. Team scores are all added together, the team with the most points wins. There’s also the individual winner, which is the person with the most points. Simple. Plus, SUP and Longboard divisions, as well as a Wahine Expression Session. Traditional? Nah. Fun to watch? Heck yes.
