Light-filled and Ventilated House Design on a Narrow and Long Lot | House Tour

Описание: Located in a green neighborhood in the city of São Paulo, LRM's house is situated on a narrow and long site, with dense neighbors on both sides, which directs the placement of openings in the main areas to the front and back sides of the site.

Pedestrian access is on the left side of the site and invites users to slowly discover the large span that brings light from above to the entire ground floor. Before accessing the living room, a graffiti artwork of blue tribal characters by Brazilian artist Crânio welcomes guests. It serves as the protector of the house, as the residents call it. This belief shows the nature of the family that makes a house fit into the planned space.

Planning a house seems to anticipate a spatial distribution that allows for the proper utilization of certain lifestyles. The house becomes a home to the way of life of its inhabitants, tying their personal values, habits and behaviors to the inhabited space, which in this case is the love of art, which can be seen and felt throughout the house.

The project was conceived based on the atmospheric results created by solids and voids and how they dematerialize. This concept is revealed in the way the ground floor is designed, which is outlined by the following dissolution of the coplanar longitudinal axis: a solid volume lined with slatted wood, a gap realized by the presence of an upper floor projection and an almost immaterial space created by a double-height ceiling wrapped in a glass facade with peak lighting.

This void created by the lateral release of the upper section gives the user an implicit perception of temporality. Different sunlight throughout the day transforms the internal spaces of the house, and the contrast of light and shadow with the desired monotony is achieved through a restrained choice of materials and desaturation.

On the ground floor, a solid block houses the kitchen, vertical circulation, half bathrooms and technical areas. Much of this extends all the way to the backyard, thinning the boundary between interior and exterior. Large glass panels that can be fully retracted inward are responsible for closing the horizontal plane, benefiting air circulation and the amount of light that enters the space.

In addition, the panels create a connection with the exterior area, where the laundry and outdoor kitchen are located. In addition to the kitchen, the metallic pergola expands the usable space into an outdoor living room full of light and ventilation.

The upper floor comprises three suites - two positioned at the front and one at the back - and a cozy living room for the family that organizes access to the suites. Above, the third floor, built to house an office, small gym and sauna, is placed close to the outdoor swimming pool, with privileged views over the famous Ibirapuera park.

The house was designed as an active facade. The curtain wall in milk glass consists of fixed panels that alternate with bi-fold windows that protect the bedrooms and filter sunlight. On the side facades, the rhythmic design of glass panels with different levels of opacity enhances the quality of light and shadow in the rooms. Maneuvers such as these provide thermal qualities to the house, which also provides a tank for water reuse and photovoltaic plates for higher energy efficiency.
