Thirty-four Australian women and children remain stranded in Al-Roj camp in Syria, including so-called ISIS brides who followed or were forced to accompany their husbands to Iraq and Syria between 2013 and 2019. Reports suggest these remaining Australian citizens could return home before Christmas, with settlement planned in New South Wales and Victoria. Terrorism experts argue repatriation is preferable to leaving them overseas where children face increased radicalisation risks.
