Devon's newest six!
A short clip of the new 6 at Kingswear, Devon. The project was originally started almost 80 years ago when Taylors tuned the two old bells and added a Tenor in 1939 to augment them to three and installed them in a H pattern frame for six. Unfortunately the outbreak of WW2 put an end to the project at that time but in August 2024 three new trebles were cast at Loughborough and transported by steam train to Kingswear, where they were hung in the tower to finally augment the ring to six.
Treble - 3-1-9 in F# dated 2024
2nd - 3-2-16 in E dated 2024
3rd - 4-1-27 in D dated 2024
4th - 5-1-21 in C# dated 1599
5th - 5-3-24 in B dated 1599
Tenor - 9-0-25 in A dated 1939
They are a pretty little six, which sound very good outside. The are rung from the ground floor and do have a very low ceiling in the ringing room, which can cause some issues with handling. There is another project which will see the removal of the false wall behind the 5th and the door way where the Tenor is rung, the 2nd which is out if shot behind another false wall will also be removed to make more space. The bells go very well and are certainly worth the ferry journey over from Dartmouth.
