Like many growing cities, Faridpur in Bangladesh is dealing with a rising tide of plastic waste. But thanks to an innovative partnership between Faridpur Municipality and Practical Action, that plastic is now being turned into something useful.
Using pyrolysis – a process that converts plastic into oil and carbon – local waste workers and technicians are giving new life to discarded plastic. This short video shows how the system works, from collection and sorting to the moment waste is transformed into fuel.
You’ll hear from the people involved, including waste worker Selina Begum, whose income has increased through her role in the project.
