Dvořák - Symphony No. 9 "From the New World", Movement 4 (Super Mario 64 Soundfont)

Описание: This absolute showstopper of a symphonic finale presents a banquet of inspired themes, both old and new, and there are many highlights for me in it.
Of course, there's the powerful main theme that first appears at 0:14 and reappears throughout the piece, but among other notable moments is the marvelously dance-like, joyous theme that concludes the exposition section at 2:23, one of my personal favorite parts.

In the middle of the development section, there's also the return of the famous melody from the symphony's second movement at 4:04, with intermittent hints of the third movement's theme played by the violins and bass. For that matter, a slight remnant from the very first movement also returns, played by the bass strings and French horns here (4:58).
The recapitulation section ends with a curiously hushed reprisal (6:44) of the dance-like episode I had mentioned before. The buildup towards this reprisal is particularly beautiful.

After this, the horns recall the first movement again (7:17), heralding the start of the stormy coda section (7:39).
At the climax of this final section, we find what might very well be the climax of the whole symphony: the chord progression that began the second movement returns in an incredibly dramatic and tragic variant (8:10).

From the dying off of this great eruption comes a melancholic version of the second movement's main theme, again with intermittent hints of the third movement (8:32).
Judging from this, one would initially assume that the symphony will end on a totally gloomy note, but Dvořák pulls us into the sunlight right near the last moment.

Many people seem to interpret this as an optimistic, triumphant ending, but I'm not wholly convinced.
I do find the minor key sentiment of 7:39-8:46 to be a tad difficult to forget, and I think the "true" conclusion of the symphony is right there. As such, the last 40 seconds of the piece thus come across to me more as a friendly, jovial afterword than anything else.
