"We live in a world obsessed with arrival-getting the job, reaching the position, achieving the dream. But what happens when you arrive and realize the dream was someone else's? My TEDx talk challenges the single-story narrative of success by sharing my journey of leaving India's most coveted civil service at its peak.
The Three Perspectives I'll Explore:
Perspective 1: Success as Staying vs. Success as Evolving
At 22, I became Bihar's youngest SP. Society saw arrival; I saw a beginning. Through stories from my policing years-converting police stations into schools, achieving 89% conviction rates while maintaining community trust-I'll show how traditional metrics of success (position, power, prestige) often blind us to deeper questions of impact and fulfillment.
Perspective 2: Service Through Systems, Not Just Sympathy
My resignation was strategic repositioning. I'll share the moment I realized that arresting criminals was treating symptoms while tribal poverty, lack of education, and systemic exclusion were the diseases. This shift from ""helping people"" to ""changing systems"" represents a fundamental reframing of what service means.
Perspective 3: Industry as Instrument of Impact
Today, as Director of an iron & steel company building sustainable tribal enterprises, I'm proving that business and social impact aren't opposing forces-they're complementary tools.
The Core Message:
Your perspective defines your possibilities. When I shifted from viewing policing as my identity to seeing it as one chapter, I unlocked entirely new ways to serve. When I reframed business from profit-extraction to value-creation, I discovered scalable models for social change." Kamyaa Mishra is a woman who chose courage over comfort. At 22, she became one of Bihar's youngest Superintendents of Police, converting 15 police stations into evening study centers and achieving an 89% conviction rate. But numbers weren't enough. At 28, she made the unconventional choice to resign from the Indian Police Service, not after failure, but at her peak to address the root causes of crime rather than its symptoms. Today, she's pioneering sustainable tribal development in her hometown of Rairangpur, Odisha, building livelihood models for 1,000+ families through her Kamyaabi Foundation while leading her family's iron and steel operations. Kamyaa's journey challenges every comfortable assumption about success, service, and what it means to truly make a difference. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
