The six-year-long legal saga of former media tycoon Jimmy Lai finally came to a conclusion today,
with the 78-year-old founder of the now-defunct Apple Daily sentenced to 20 years in prison, the harshest punishment yet under Hong Kong's national security law.
This landmark ruling marks a significant first in the law's application since taking effect 2020.
The SAR government hailed it as a fair application of the rule of law, stressing that no one is above it.
Beijing warns against foreign interference, as the ruling has drawn some international criticism.
