All about CBX - The Cross Border Express. #CBX #CrossBorderExpress ##MexicoTravel #TijuanaAirport Mark Shapiro, VideoMasters Project 9, What is the best way to fly to destinations in Mexico? What is the best way to catch flights to almost anywhere else in the world? Cheaper, less hassle and more efficient? Did I say cheaper?
That’s right –check out the Tijuana International airport. Right across the border in Tijuana,
Oh no, you might be saying, I don’t want to have to cross into Mexico. I don’t want to deal with the traffic and waits to cross the border … especially on the way back, from Mexico back into San Diego.
Well - there is a great alternative. CBX.
That is the Cross Border Crossing. It is a private bridge that you can use to cross the border, just a bit south of Chula Vista. You park or get a ride to the US side and then walk across a safe and secure bridge directly into and out of the Tijuana airport. Its great.
A few weeks ago, I did it for the first time and it was impressive. It was easy and convenient. My flight to and from Mexico City from TJ was inexpensive, easy and a lot quicker than flying out of San Diego.
TJ Airport provides direct flights to 35 destinations throughout Mexico.
You have a choice of 4 commercial airlines; #Aeroméxico, #Calafia, #Viva and #Volaris which operate routes to and from the Tijuana International Airport with about 6000 flights per month. Their prices are pretty competitive. Just go their websites and do your bargain shopping.
Looking for a different international destination? You can fly out of TJ and into the Mexico City International Airport. From there you can catch flights to almost anywhere else in the world.
Instead of flying out of the US, It may well be worth your time and effort to check to see how much you can save by flying from TJ to Mexico City and then to your final destination.
OK. You have decided to fly out of the #Tijuana airport and to use the CBX to cross back and forth into #Mexico.
What are the Four Steps?
Step One – Book your flight on one of the four TJ Airport airlines
Step Two – Book your CBX crossing pass. It varies per the time of the year and the number, ages and type of passengers. All of this explained on the CBX website.
The price starts at $18 per person one way – the two way ticket is $35 per person. There are also special plans for families, commuters and the military.
Go to the CBX website (https://www.crossborderxpress.com/en/) and book your CBX tickets.
Print it out and keep a copy on your phone. If you do book a round trip, make sure you keep your both your CBX ticket as well as your airline boarding pass easily accessible. You will need both to get into Mexico as well as out of Mexico when you return.
Of course, if you are the last minute type of person, you can get your airline boarding pass and your CBX crossing ticket at the CBX facility. But it might cost you a bit more and you will have to stand in line.
Step 3 – Make sure you have all your required documents. Passport, tickets and the Multiple Migratory Form (#FMM). You can complete this form online or at the CBX facility. https://www.inm.gob.mx/fmme/publico/e...
Step Four – Get yourself and your baggage to the CBX. You can just drive down there and park at the one of the four parking lots on the US side of the border. The prices vary – the closer you are to the CBX – the shorter the walk, the more expensive it is. Parking starts at $15 per day. Of course, you can have someone drop you off or you can take an Uber or Lyft or taxi. There are an assortment of buses and shuttles as well.
The cool thing is – it is not busy – there is not a lot of traffic. You can be dropped off just feet away from the entrance. And maybe even better, on your return, you can be picked up right in front of the exit doors. No fighting the crazy traffic or the crowds at #Lindburgh.
Once inside, and once you get past the initial check points – the #CBX staff will check to make sure you have your documents and that they are filled out correctly, and then you take the bridge across. It was about a 400 foot hike- not bad. Once you are in Mexico, you will go through the Mexico immigration and customs station. It was swift and easy. Very short lines.
From there on, it is like almost any other airport.
And because it only serves 4 airlines, it is almost impossible to get lost. While you are waiting for your flight, there is a small assortment of food counters to pick from. American fast food as well as Mexican food.
