Gilson rotary sifters and silent sifters are a fast, safe, and efficient tool for particle size separations of granular materials and are designed for a long service life.
Before performing maintenance or repairs on the unit, ALWAYS read and understand the safety, operating, and maintenance instructions supplied with the unit.
If you find there excessive noise or vibration during operation.
First, check if the turntable is installed in the wrong position. Insert the post of the sieve turntable into the proper position; the opening toward the front is for 12in (or 300mm) diameter test sieves and the opening toward the back is for 8in (or 200mm) diameter sieves.
Next, check if the sieve size selection knob is set correctly. The sieve size selector knob on the front control panel should be set to match the sieve’s diameter. The sieve size selector knob adjusts the tapping hammers action for the best tapping force. Set the selection knob to the correct sieve size.
If problem persists, ensure that the unit is unplugged from its power supply, remove the top panel, and then slide the back panel up and off the sifter cabinet. This will expose the drive belts and pulleys and set aside.
Now, check if there is a loose or broken drive belt. Adjust the tension or replace the belt.
Check the condition and tensioning of the lower V-belt and the upper drive belt and ensure they are not slipping in the pulley grooves. If necessary, adjust the belt tension or replace the belts. Loosening the bolts of the drive shaft bearing and sliding it in the slotted mounting holes changes belt tension or enables easy belt replacement.
Finally, check the cam pulley, three rod pulleys, drive pulley, and motor pulley to confirm that they are all secured to their shafts. The pulleys are positioned vertically on their shafts with set screws. The shafts are slotted to accommodate a key that enables the horizontal rotation of the pulleys.
Ensure that the pulleys are aligned with each other at the correct height, the set screws are tight, and the keys are in place in the slots.
If any of these parts appear faulty, contact Gilson for a replacement.
