Down by the Salley Gardens is a traditional Irish song. The words taken from a poem by William Butler Yeats (1865-1939), an Irish poet, dramatist, prose writer, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1923.
The poem was published in 1889, then set to the traditional air The Moorlough Shore by Herbert Hughes in 1909.
