Run Android apps natively on Linux Mint! In this tutorial, we look at how to install Waydroid with near-native performance. Because Linux Mint uses the X11 display server by default, Waydroid won't run out of the box—but we use a quick, 5-minute workaround using the Weston nested compositor to get it running flawlessly without breaking your system desktop environment.

1️⃣ STEP 1: Install Weston & Dependencies
sudo apt update && sudo apt install curl ca-certificates weston -y
2️⃣ STEP 2: Add Repository & Install Waydroid
curl https://repo.waydro.id | sudo bash
sudo apt install waydroid -y
3️⃣ STEP 3: Enable the Background Service Container
sudo systemctl enable --now waydroid-container
4️⃣ STEP 4: Launching the Interface
Type this in your main terminal to open the sandbox:
weston
Then, click the terminal utility icon inside the top-left corner of the Weston window and type:
waydroid show-full-ui
