Plugins do make your audio sound better. But if you don’t prepare your audio to be processed well by the plugins, it won’t make it better. Garbage in, garbage out.
That’s why one of the must-dos when it comes to mixing is clip gaining. It’s manually controlling the gain of your audio file throughout its duration, as opposed to just setting up your faders.
Clip gaining ensures that the audio file’s gain is as even as possible before being processed by plugins.
In this video, I explain how it would be beneficial to clip gain, where to use it, and how to apply it on a country vocal track using Logic.
