My diagnosis was April 2008 and it was for triple negative breast cancer. With triple negative, there really are no targeted drugs. So, basically it was not a good diagnosis to have. I thought I wanted to be in a clinical trial. So, I initially approached my oncologist about, "Well, do you think I should be in this trial and are you offering it?" And he wasn't offering it and he wasn't even aware of the trial. Weill Cornell was offering it. It started off very, very positive. I was enrolled in the trial. Everyone was randomized to a drug and they were just comparing benefits of one drug versus another. At Cornell we've been very fortunate, in that we have a very good nose for drugs. And we have been instrumental in bringing several drugs to market. So, when I think about those patients who got drugs which are FDA-approved, four and five years before everybody else, that makes me really happy. When you go into the Breast Center, it's a very warm, small practice. Everybody knows your name. When you come back, the lab technician always knows your name you know? They look at the whole patient. So, it's not just a question of "How am I doing?" in terms of the breast cancer. But they're also interested in you know, "Are you getting your other checkups? Are you doing your other preventive screenings?" What I love about Weill Cornell is they're all breast cancer specialists and this is what they do and their depth of experience is just tremendous. It's been fantastic. It made me feel better that I was trying to improve my own odds and I think I have. It's seven years later and I'm doing well.
