To suggest that a years’ worth of production on special teams occurred in one game would be an understatement.

Except, a similar scenario occurred last week for Carmel High’s football team. While the late dramatics from last week were spread out over 48 minutes Thursday, the results changed the complexion of the game as the Padres used a pair of special team touchdowns in a 50-36 win over North Salinas at Rabobank Stadium in Salinas. The Padres overcame a dynamic effort from North Salinas’ Demajae Roberson, who returned a pair of kickoffs himself, scoring four touchdowns in the loss. One of three teams in the Pacific Coast Athletic League that is still undefeated, the Padres have already surpassed their win total from last season at 6-0.

Dating back to last year, Carmel has rattled off eight consecutive wins, having scored 50 or more points in six of those games. It is averaging 47.8 points a game during its winning streak. Carmel receiver Ashton Rees, who produced four touchdowns on the ground by taking a direct snap from center.
