The National Treasury has announced plans to increase spending on social development with the continuation of the social relief of distress grant.
Minister of Finance Enoch Godongwana tabled the 2026 budget speech in Cape Town earlier today. He announced that for the 2026/27 financial year social grants are allocated R292.8 billion.
Social wages account for more than 60 percent of non-interest spending over the medium term.
