Duerme Pueblo Mio - Gala 2023 - Stanford Talisman

Описание: "Duerme Pueblo Mio" translates to “Sleep My People”, and is a blend of two songs, “Cancion de Cuna” or “Lullaby”, and “Cuando Crezcas Pueblo Mio”, “When you grow my people”. These songs were written during Nicaragua’s Sandinista Revolution, which took place in response to a 40-year-old, US-backed dictatorship that left the majority Nicaraguans in poverty. Despite its context, this song is hopeful, urging the children of Nicaragua to dream of a better future and imploring the people to work hard to build a better and safer nation.

We sing this song in Talisman to recognize the hardships caused by political strife in many countries, including those in Central America, as well as to celebrate the resilience of the people who have worked relentlessly to overcome it. In presenting this song, we also remember and acknowledge a history of United States intervention that has, repeatedly, led to situations much like that of Nicaragua across the world.

Stanford Talisman is a student-led a cappella group at Stanford University dedicated to sharing stories through song. This has become our mantra as we strive to respectfully give voice to the vast collection of human stories told through rich and vibrant song.
