Home of the Eng Tat Hornets, Singapore.
Eng Tat Hornets started off as Eng Tat Sun Hwa with a bunch of young basketball fanatics back in the mid 1980's. Eng Tat Sun Hwa Pte Ltd, who supported the team was then run by the Neo family. The uncle of Neo Beng Siang was deeply impressed by the boys' burning passion for basketball and agile skills and decided to support the team wholeheartedly and unconditionally.
With strenuous nights of training and much perseverance, the bunch of boys slowly became a formidable team to reckon with. In the late 1980's, the team's reputation was so successful that many of the individual players were the sought-after targets of big organisations.
Neo Beng Siang, Lee Teng Hern, Lim Kia Ann, Nicholas Sim Kwang Hai, Neo Nam Kheng, Chia Gek Lim, Chua Kim Aan, Yeo Kian Hoe and Richard Tan Thiam Poo were just some of the household names within the basketball game scene. These players were often lured by tempting offers that one would have forsaken the team for but Eng Tat Sun Hwa members were so closely knitted that none of them was moved by those irresistible offers.
In 1989, Eng Tat Sun Hwa joined cash-rich Sheng Hong Temple and kick-started their basketball arm with its generous sponsorship. The name of Eng Tat Sun Hwa was shelved for almost 6 years until the players from Sheng Hong Temple felt that they should step down to make room for their younger generation but the passion for basketball was still strong in their hearts. Instead of retirement, the players with their love for the game formed a team made up of ex-Sheng Hong Temple players and some good buddies from the national team.
Having shared the same sentiments, they reinstated 'Eng Tat Credit' who was then so supportive in their earlier days. That was when Eng Tat members became rejuvenated and emerged as a team once again.
Eng Tat Credit Basketball Team experienced many obstacles through the years and as many of the older players were more involved with their family. The team was only active again two years back, in 2001 when the juniors from Whye Nam basketball team (ex-Sheng Hong Temple) joined the team. As we have inherited the fast pace basketball traditions and with the increasing need to improve the look and professionalism of domestic basketball team, we decided to adopt 'Hornet' as our mascot. It is the first step to emerge as champion once again in the court.
