worlds second highest pass in the greater himalayas....ladakh sep '05 on a Enfield. But Indians, often two of them with 50 kg's luggage, find a modest 125 cc Vespa scooter sufficient for coping one of the toughest piece of (so called) Highway in the world...the only high thing concerning that mostly road/dirt track, is it's altitude! From Between Leh to Darcha some 320 km and 12 hours mounted, you're rarely below 4500 meters, not to mention the two first passes 5360m, #2 4850m then Baralacha a modest 4995m and finally, after 2-3 days (if the road is not fucked) the gateway to the Indian Subcontinent: Rohtang La (litarary: heaps of bones!) at 3994....3 hours from the greenery of Manali in Kullu Valley. Stay some weeks in leh and surroundings to acclimatise and enjoy the rich cultural heritage and awesome nature.
A few days in Keylong i enough but highly recommended if your trip is opposite due to the height gaining is more modest.
these advise is whatever means of transportation...and even fit plp have died in as little as 3500m if to rapid accented. the higher himalays is not a playground but the trip is out of this world!
