My love of bells and roto tom style sounds came from Rush and specifically the incomparable Neil Peart. I would try to incorporate them into system songs whenever there was space for them, at times this received less than favorable results from the band. “What’s with the fuckin bells“, “why are you always adding bells“ were a few of the more tame comments I received (there were more descriptive comments I can’t share here) but in the end, and after some negotiations, the bells made the albums. Thankfully I outweigh my band members and when push comes to shove a nice headlock coupled with tickling wins most arguments. Sadly my tickling skills diminished over the years, I blame this loss as the reason we didn’t make more albums.
