MG HS 2021 review: Safety and features dial up the value. But is that enough?

It's easy to see why there are now so many on our roads, with the now-China-backed MG recently gaining a spot in Australia's top 10 automakers.

But is it too good to be true? Can MG really undercut rivals and remain competitive, even with an important hybrid variant? To find out we've taken a look at the whole MG HS range. How will the Toyota RAV4, Mazda CX-5, and Hyundai Tucson-rivalling mid-size SUV stand up against rivals in our eight review categories?

In our review video we'll look at price, design, practicality, engine and transmission, fuel consumption, ownership, safety, and round it out with a verdict.

For our test we've predominantly driven the entry-level 1.5-litre turbocharged Core and the top-spec Essence plug-in hybrid to find out at what end of the price scale the HS is best value, and which is best to drive.
