“We buy a car that represents who we are. So, you really take it seriously when you look for a car, and you've got to go compare. Where else would you compare it, but at an auto show like Detroit or around Munich or any place in the world? Shows are important. And more than ever before now, with having technology, you've got to be able to compare, so, that's what we do in Detroit.”

LEADIN:
From a flying car concept to bumping Broncos, America’s motor city is unveiling all at the Detroit car show.

Organisers say the theme this year is not just ‘have a look’, but ‘get in and have a go’ with an indoor electric vehicle track and on-street ride-and-drives.

STORYLINE:

It may look like any other car fair, but this year’s show in Detroit, America’s motor city, has all the fun of the fair.

With all the new EV technology manufacturers are aiming to let people get a hands on the wheel experience.

Organisers say there may be fewer products this year, but the emphasis of the North American International Auto Show as it’s known, is all about the driver experience.

There’s still a lot to take in. There are brands here from Alpha Romeo to Volkswagen, but unsurprisingly with these indoor electric car tracks, the trucks and wagons appear to be the most popular, especially when you’ve got a professional driver to steer you over the bumps.

Tesla, absent from the show for years, has returned for those events and floor display.
