Описание: In California, the college professor Dr. Peter Proud (Michael Sarrazin) is haunted by a reoccurring nightmare where he is a man swimming naked in a lake and struck several times by an oar and murdered by a woman, which he yells for to stop, named Marcia (Margot Kidder). Aside from his nightly "dreams" he also experiences pain on his hip. He seeks medical attention with his colleague psychologist Dr. Samuel Goodman (Paul Hetch) in a laboratory but there is no positive result for the treatment. One evening, while at home with his wife, Peter sees a documentary featuring a town in Massachusetts. He recognizes some of the scenes of that from his nightly "visions". He calls the station to inquire more info. The station only knows that the clips are from a city within Massachusetts. He decides to travel with his girlfriend, Nora Hayes (Cornelia Shape), to seek the location.

Goldsmith anchors with a main theme introduced from the outset by a chamber-sized string ensemble with liberal electronics to establish an other-worldly dream-like tone mingled with impending terror. When the search begins, Goldsmith opens his material up with a degree of forward motion, adding size to his ensemble. Still further into the story, he increases his orchestral forces, eventually scoring in a full-blooded action/horror mode. Adding further depth to the score, Goldsmith also created one of his most beautiful love themes, here featuring piano and strings, often with the added color of solo flute. At another point, the striking sound of solo trumpet evokes his legendary and then-recently completed score for Chinatown. Certainly, the importance of Peter Proud’s score is considerable.
