How The Grammy Voting Process Works | Pop Dissected Podcast

Welcome back to another Pop Dissected Podcast. If you’ve ever been curious about how the voting process works for the Grammy Awards - we’ll be discussing it today. It’s quite an interesting process, that isn’t just strictly one round of voting.

While the organization came under serious heat last year, and some have revealed awards can be bought or the results are rigged - that’s a conversation for another time, we’re strictly going to talk about how the process apparently goes.

In case you didn’t know - we, the public, cannot vote on the Grammys, unlike shows such as the Billboard and American Music Awards in which certain categories are eligible for the public vote.

The only people who can vote for the Grammys are official members of the recording academy. But, who are these members? The recording academy members are composed of two types of members - professional and student.

A professional member can be an artist themselves, a producer or musician. These professional members are ones that have direct contributions in the creation of music. Student members are ones that are shadowing or studying under the academy to hopefully become an industry professional.
