This ceremony is not just about giving a name to a new yacht; it is a celebration of the craftsmanship, dedication, and passion that have brought her to life. As we enjoy this ceremony, it's worth recalling some notable moments in maritime history. For instance, the Vikings opted for a drop of blood to bless their boats, while we decide to break a bottle of champagne. I'm very happy we aren't Vikings! In fact, the first time champagne was used to christen a vessel wasn't until 1890 for the US Navy's first steel battleship, the USS Maine. Then, in 1891, Queen Victoria christened the HMS Royal Arthur with champagne, confirming a tradition. [...] It would be wrong of me not to mention some of the vital statistics of ALP. Construction started on May 3 2021, in Hall 6 in our shipyard in Oss. She was launched on February 23 this year and moved to Hellevoetsluis on April 21 for final commissioning and sea trials, which were carried out on April 25. ALP is the third in our latest generation of 50-meter aluminium fast-cruising yachts. She can accommodate up to 12 guests in five elegant staterooms and nine crew in five cabins. Her twin 2,560 kW MTU engines give her a top speed of 23 knots and a transatlantic cruising range of 3,100 miles at 11 knots. She weighs a mighty 333 tons and carries some 51,000 litres of fuel. Our engineers' ingenious hull design gives her a super-shallow draft of just 2.15m, making her the ideal yacht for cruising the more beautiful, small, intimate bays in the Mediterranean and the Bahamas, where a low draft is essential. Now, I would like to say a few words of thanks. To Frank Laupman and his team at Omega Architects for designing what can only be described as an uber cool, modern, contemporary yacht sure to turn heads wherever she is berthed. Frank, your work continues to set new standards in yacht design, and ALP stands as a testament to your incredible talent. To Cristiano Gatto for another exquisite interior design. Your creativity and attention to detail have presented our fine cabinet makers in Winterswijk with challenges they have met with incredible skill and dedication. The quality of their work is nothing short of remarkable, and it adds immeasurably to the elegance and beauty of ALP. To my old friend Jim Evans of Superyachts Monaco.
