It was a pleasure to present a trio from the “O’Carolan Quintet” on this month’s episode of Bright Side Of The Road. Led by the flute player Jacquelyn Hynes, the quintet features five sublime musicians, who’ll bring a magical Christmas concert to the ICC on the afternoon of December 15th, which will celebrate the music of the great eighteenth Century Irish Composer and blind harpist Turlough O’Carolan. The afternoon will also feature recitations about O’Carolan, to be recited by the Irish poet “The Racker”.
The quintet includes:
Jacquelyn Hynes on Irish Flute
Tara Viscardi on cláirseach (Irish harp)
David Råberg-Schrello – Cello
Brian Gascoigne– Arranger and Keyboard
Tara McCarthy on Fiddle & Viola
Guest – Perseus Morgan (Harmonica)
Poet – The Racker– Reciting from Arthur O’Neill’s Memoir on O’Carolan.
This is the first of three short films which was captured when Jacquelyn, Brian and Tara McCarthy came into the radio studio to perform on Bright Side Of The Road.
