Hypertension Pathophysiology

Hypertension, more commonly known as high blood pressure (BP), occurs when there is increased tension on the arteries and vital organs like the heart. Normal BP is 120/80, and between the two, 120 refers to the systolic pressure while 80 refers to the diastolic pressure.

Hypertension occurs when the systolic and diastolic pressures go up to 140/90 and more, which is called as stage II hypertension.

When the blood pressure reads up to 180/120, a life-threatening problem known as hypertensive crisis happens.

Hypertension Signs and Symptoms

Hypertension is a medical condition that is asymptomatic, which means that it does not exhibit any signs and symptoms, and just creeps up over time. For this reason, hypertension is also tagged as the “Silent Killer.”
