On the day the foundation stone was laid for the reconstruction of the Medaram temple, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy grandly announced, "We are undertaking works that will last for the next thousand years. We are entrusting this responsibility to Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy." The Congress government boasted, "We are reconstructing the temple keeping in mind the rush of devotees. We are widening it. According to the opinion of the priests, we are undertaking the constructions without harming the tribal culture and traditions." Accordingly, the government constructed the shrine of the forest goddess at Medaram with stone structures.

However, the hollowness of the works undertaken by the government was exposed even before the return journey of the Medaram Mahajathara. The stone structures are collapsing. The government undertook the restoration works of the platform complex under the supervision of Minister Ponguleti. The stone pillars erected as part of the beautification works undertaken for the Sammakka-Saralamma platforms are already breaking. The flooring of the platforms area is sinking. Devotees are expressing their displeasure, saying that the structures are breaking even before the return journey of the deities is completed on Wednesday. The villagers of Medaram, however, are cursing, saying that "quality has vanished."



Allegations have surfaced that these works were carried out shoddily by company personnel under the guise of a master plan, without the supervision of officials from the Endowments Department and other engineering departments. Widespread criticism is being expressed over the fact that the stones installed at the platforms are crumbling and breaking even before the festival concludes and the return journey of the deities is completed. Devotees are of the opinion that the Revanth government is inviting the wrath of the goddesses by boasting about its achievements.

The tribals are of the opinion that when undertaking permanent constructions, the work should have started at least six or seven months before the grand festival.

Is it just for breaking records?
On the day of laying the foundation stone for the Medaram development model and works (September 23, 2025), Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced that the premises of the Medaram goddesses' shrines would be completed in record time. "We will complete it in 100 days. District in-charge Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy should visit Medaram three times a week to complete the works. If necessary, he should stay here," CM Revanth Reddy announced. Following this, Minister Ponguleti swung into action.

Since then, the pace of work increased, and to supervise the works, Ponguleti, along with other ministers, came to Medaram 11 times in a special helicopter to inspect the works and conduct reviews with officials and the concerned contract staff on the progress. Finally, the completed works were inaugurated by CM Revanth Reddy on January 19 of last month.
