In 1998, Kevin Warwick, a Professor of Cybernetics at Reading University, became the world's first cyborg when he implanted in his left arm a microchip to control a remote arm. He doesn't want to create a robot; he wants to break with the limits of the human body and merge with a computer: he wants to be a Cyborg.

Professor Warwick has been researching Artificial Intelligence, robotics and cyborgs for years, trying to find new structures that combine living matter and electronic devices. According to the professor, technology will merge with the body to break the limits of its three-dimensional perception and its five senses.
In 1998, Kevin instigated a series of pioneering experiments involving the neurosurgical implantation of a device (Utah Array/BrainGate) into the median nerves of his left arm in order to link his nervous system directly to a computer to assess the latest technology for use with the disabled. His objective is the communication brain to brain, and he is actually close to getting it: in 2002, he implied together with his wife a chip that made possible an electronic communication between two nervous systems, allowing between both the exchange of sensations. The question he made was: how much can the brain process and adapt to unfamiliar information?
