According to a report from THR, Warner Bros. is in the early stages of developing a reboot and relaunch of The Matrix; with Zak Penn in talks to write a treatment and Michael B Jordan eyed to star. The report goes on to mention that at this point, the Wachowski siblings, the original writers and directors, are not involved. The project is still in the very early stages of planning, so a release date is still far from being determined.

It’s been 17 years since Gladiator came out but Ridley Scott still has an idea on how to bring Russell Crowe’s Maximus back from the dead. After presenting a screening of Alien at the SXSW Film Festival, Entertainment Weekly asked Scott whether a Gladiator 2 was still in the mix for him, and how he’d make a sequel about Maximus. He replied he knows how to bring Crowe back.

Deadline is reporting that J.D. Dillard, whose directorial feature Sleight impressed critics at Sundance last year, is in negotiations to direct and co-write a remake of The Fly for 20th Century Fox. David Cronenberg’s 1986 horror classic which starred Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis, was itself a remake of the 1958 version. Sources for Deadline are saying that Fox is looking at this new remake as a franchise starter. No word yet on a release date.

Marvel has released a new Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 TV spot. In the upcoming sequel, the Guardians will expand their ranks as they encounter new enemies as well as discovering the true identity of Peter Quill’s father. The film stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Michael Rooker, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel and Kurt Russell. It opens in theatres on May 5th.

Sony Pictures has released a new red-band trailer for Life. The movie, which stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Rebecca Ferguson and Ryan Reynolds, revolves around the six-member crew of the International Space Station as they come into contact with the very first evidence of biological life on Mars. As they begin to research on the specimen, “life” proves far more dangerous than they could have ever imagined. The movie is written by Deadpool’s Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese and directed by Daniel Espinosa. It opens in theatres on March 24th.

Following rumors of his involvement, Edward James Olmos has finally confirmed that he will indeed return to the role of veteran Blade Runner Gaff for the upcoming sequel entitled Blade Runner 2049.
