In the age of BS6 emission norms, the Skoda Rapid has been given a new engine to meet the tailpipe emissions criteria. This meant that its petrol and diesel engine’s were given the boot, and new 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine took their place. While we will talk about the engine and how it feels extensively in our review, what manages to interest us is that the base variant of the Rapid, that is the Rider variant, seemed to be an extremely value for money option. So instead of choosing the top-end variant of the Rapid to do our walkaround, we went for the base variant this time around.
The Rapid’s 1.0-litre TSI engine makes 110PS and 175Nm of torque.
It is currently available only with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
A 6-speed automatic gearbox will be offered in the future.
The Rapid is available in a total of 5 variants which are priced between Rs 7.49 lakh and Rs 11.79 lakh (both ex-showroom India).
The next-generation Rapid will arrive in India sometime in 2021.
