In this short video geared towards primary care physicians, we model how to discuss testing for latent tuberculosis (TB) infection with your patient. Latent TB doesn’t make people feel sick, but can progress to TB disease, which can cause severe illness and spread to loved ones. Testing for TB infection can be done with a blood test (interferon gamma release assay or IGRA), and is recommended for patients who were born outside the United States (in countries with higher TB risk), are immune-compromised, or have spent time with someone with TB disease. Educate patients on their TB risk factors, and help them learn their status!
