For safety reasons, what is used in tantodori training is a wooden knife.

It should be understood that actual self-defense against knife attacks is extremely difficult, whatever martial art or technique is used. Furthermore, ikkyo might not be the most effective aikido technique against knife attacks, but it is part of the tantodori curriculum.

This is a new edit of a 2003 video posted in 2007:

The quality is vastly improved in the edit, but still far below the level of contemporary videos. I did what I could.
