It was 2:00 on Saturday afternoon, September 20th. Winds were light but steady, pushing Francesca along close-hauled at about six knots. Out of the deep blue, a magnificent humpback whale surfaced and began swimming alongside us. For several minutes, she followed in perfect rhythm — until she rose up and gave Francesca the gentlest little tap on the transom… almost like a kiss.
As she peeled away, she made one final dive, lifting her tail flukes high before disappearing into the sea. It was a quiet, humbling reminder of how small we are and how extraordinary these moments can be when you live close to nature.
