It was a welcome surprise to find a few of the HO scale LEGO vehicles in my recent vintage eBay haul, especially because I did not previously have this particular model.
The VW 1500 was a 1963-1964 release in a larger range of 1:87 vehicles designed for the town plan system that was a hallmark for LEGO at the time.
According to Bricklink, it could be found in white, light grey, dark grey, black, dark red, red and blue. It also spanned the transition from 4x8 garage cases to cardboard box packaging, respectively sold as set #267 and #667.
