STEAM - British Railways Volume 1 (1991 Documentary)

Описание: When the railways of Britain were nationalised in 1948 to for British Railways, the authorities were faced with many different trends in steam locomotive development. Although it was intended to electrify the railways as soon as possible, it was necessary to replace a large number of the older steam locomotives, many of which had been run into the ground during the war. A range of "standard" locomotives evolved which rapidly gained favour with the railway enthusiasts. In this programme we see them at work in the 1950's and 1960's with the aid of rare archival film and show which still work, including the famous Britannia and Duke of Gloucester.

A relaxing yet somewhat dry documentary about British steam locomotives. Other locomotives featured are: 76017 Class 4 Mogul 2-6-0, 73050 City of Peterborough 4-6-0, 92220 Evening Start 2-10-0, 80064 Class 4 Tank 2.6.4-T, 75207 Class 4 4-6-0, 92240 Class 9 2-10-0.
