Описание: Hyenas in the modern day are very capable predators that, despite their close association with scavenging, are capable of warding off attacks from adult lions. The most widespread and formidable species is the spotted hyena, a powerful pack hunter that uses teamwork, strength and stamina to bring down its prey, often consisting of animals much larger than itself. Hyenas have been masters of the plains for millions of years, and have undergone several notable changes throughout their natural history, producing some particularly monstrous forms.

Which hyenas, then, might you come across if you were to travel back into the not so distant past of Planet Earth? Well, depending on the time and place, you might come across an extinct hyena of the genus Pachycrocuta.
