Behind the scenes, a team of organizers from the Office of Presidential Advance coordinate with those on site to make sure everything goes seamlessly. Of course, seamless is impossible—so that leads to a variety of misadventures and a whole host of stories after the fact.
A new book brings those stories together, with contributions from former advancers like Robert Gates, who went on to be Secretary of Defense under Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, and former Senator Rob Portman, plus our very own Michael Smerconish.
Michael sits down with Jean Becker and Tom Collamore, co-authors of "Don’t Tell the President," to tell his story and talk about why he loves the book so much.
