Castellammare di Stabia lies next to the ancient Roman city of Stabiae, which was destroyed in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, on the Gulf of Naples. It was restored during the reign of Frederick II of Hohenstaufen and enlarged by King Charles I of Anjou.
The commune, formerly known as Castellamare, adopted the name of Castellammare on January 22, 1863 and its present name as Castellammare di Stabia on May 31, 1912.
Castellammare di Stabia is known for its healing waters. In summer, many events, exhibitions and concerts take place in the park.
In Castellammare di Stabia in 1999, Gianluigi Donnarumma was born, AC Milan goalkeeper, PSG, second-youngest goalkeeper in Serie A.
