It’s been a short minute since I’ve posted some good ol’ rear loader footage, so what better time than to unveil this old beast! At first glance, I thought they had repainted the white truck, #378, that usually does the route. This unit has been at Morton Grove for quite a while, although in this particular video it was seen helping a West Chicago route. They actually had this unit working out in DeKalb over the winter, which is why it has remnants of the DeKalb County Recycling Systems sticker on the door (DCRS is LRS’ western IL division). This truck was filling in for the white truck on the Saturday after Memorial Day, and the driver is the same one from my previous two videos of the white truck when he was training.

I’ve never seen a Leach of this age in person before, so it was super cool to finally see one. You definitely know it’s old when it’s got a single handle for operating the entire packer, and a slow packer at that. I would assume that this truck will have to meet its maker soon, but because LRS has expanded so rapidly they are short a number of trucks so this will have to do for a while.
