[Panel Discussion] Asia and the World: Managing the Rise of Asia

Описание: The rise of Asia, demonstrated by China’s rapid growth, is unprecedented in both speed and scale. Asia has become the largest manufacturer in the world. It is also becoming the largest market. Seven of the top ten countries in terms of foreign reserves come from Asia. Rapidly increasing economic strength have enabled the Asian countries, especially China and India, to expand their influence rapidly in world affairs, resulting in a significant shift of power from the West to the East.

In the second panel hosted by Professor Kishore Mahbubani, Dean of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, three veterans in the field of public policy will share their views on the impact of the rise of Asia. They will cover the vast and varied implications of Asia’s rise, ranging from shifts in political power from the West, interdependence between America and China, political transition within Asian states, concerns of military build-up and lingering territorial conflicts, to access to natural resources. In doing so, they will be able to give a picture of how these unprecedented changes can be understood and managed from a global standpoint.
