I've wanted to revisit this track for ages. I started last year by using the same MIDI as the original, but opting for a more early 70's Dudley Simpson/Malcolm Clarke feel. The original version I posted was a more novel 60's 'spy' genre vibe, and this time I wanted to be a bit more authentic. So I dusted off some of my GarageBand plugins, including the MoogMini, and set to work.
The original MIDI was too close to the original and I needed something that had some weirdness to it, to really help me emulate that almost jarring music of the era. I found this very creative version by "TommyKray" online that has a weird tremolo-esque section at the 1 minute mark. I was going to cut that part but kept it because it reminded me almost of the Autons soundtrack. So I set some of the more comically weird scenes from this era to that part of the theme.
Sadly, I wasn't able to get in all the clips I wanted to, so I had to be a bit more selective than I usually am. For that reason, I mostly focused on action scenes as this is a very fast-paced theme - which is why I think it's perfect for the Third Doctor.
