This is the Geon F1-8X v2. I went in on the groupbuy March 2024 and it arrived today (June 2025). Was it worth the wait ???
The nerdy stuff:
Keyboard: Geon F1-8X v2
Plate: Aluminum plate (full)
Stabilizers: Swagkeys Knight stabs
Switches: Cherry MX2A Black, lubed and filmed. Spring swapped to Geon's 60g 14mm.
Keycaps: GMK White on Black (Hangul)
Artisans: Geon escape, Archetype M88 (2020)
Initial first type review.
What a board! After owning a few end-game tier (to me) keyboards, this is the first one to absolutely NAIL IT in terms of sound and feel. The modifiers are perfect out of the box. The spacebar slaps so hard. The alphas are crisp. All combined, the sound this thing produces is very clean with no rattle or other misplaced vibrations.
And the best part ? This thing's F-row and r5 rows, traditionally the worst sounding rows on custom mechanical keyboards, are great! I've never heard a board where the top and bottom rows aren't a complete let down.
The typing feel is comfortable. It's not quite stiff. The leaf spring allows vibrations to travel through the board, making it feel as if its slightly vibrating. Like a cat that's happy to see you. There's extra vibrations along the bottom and top rows, but the alphas have subtle give during typing sessions.
The 9 degree typing angle is not bad. I expect that some people might initially find it high if they're used to a 6-7 degree board. Personally, I don't even notice it, and users can expect to adjust quickly. I have spent time learning how to touch type and can hover hand, so there will be some users that suffer fatigue if you don't use proper technique.
I don't know if I could recommend this thing for gaming, even if you snag an HE PCB. Disregarding the angle, there's also the issue of how heavy the board is. It is a beast to adjust on the desk, and I can't recommend it if you'll be moving it around to free up more desk mat for your mouse hand. Do yourself a favor and pick up a lighter (and probably cheaper) keyboard for gaming.
Lastly, there's only one 'weakness' to this board and that is its lack of style. There are no engravings on this thing, no fancy designs, or pretty weights. The back side actually has a copper sticker that makes it look like a (high-end) OEM keyboard. Despite that, the board has chamfers along every edge. That machining style, combined with a very smooth anodization, mean that this board has more subtle features to admire.
And that's what this board is. It's a subtle keeb that is very unassuming, but when asked to perform, it can sing an OPERA. 10 out of 10 sound and feel, highly recommended!
