The condition of Barnali Medhi, the only daughter of renowned Assamese short-story writer Saurav Kumar Chaliha, has drawn attention. Known as Matu, Barnali has been staying at her maternal uncle’s home in Lakhipur following the death of her parents. Being specially abled, she requires considerable financial support for her medical treatment and care. However, her maternal uncle’s family is reportedly not financially self-sufficient enough to bear the expenses. Writer Ankur Deka, a close friend of Saurav Kumar Chaliha, became emotional after seeing Barnali’s present condition and appealed to kind-hearted people to extend support for her proper care.
