Abstract: In this talk, Dr. Dylan Lee will give a short introduction of the CoastWatch program, where it fits inside of NOAA, and the aims and purpose of CoastWatch's new Water Node. Dr. Lee will explain why CIROH is involved in the Water Node and how node activities represent a unique opportunity for CIROH researchers to engage with Water Center operations by collaborating with the Water Node on new remote sensing workflows to improve the Water Centers hydrological modelling and real time decision making capability. A brief overview of the node's current initiatives and projects will also be included.
Bio: Dylan Lee is the recently hired Water Node Operations Manager and remote sensing analyst at CIROH. Dr. Lee received his PhD in Earth Sciences from The University of Pennsylvania, and his BS in Geology from The University of Florida. His research heavily features remote sensing for Earth observation and he has experience in sensor development, data analysis, and GIS. At CIROH he will be working with researchers to create methods that use remote sensing data to improve the Water Center's flood inundation mapping capabilities. He will also focus on creating pipelines that allow the next generation national water model to incorporate additional satellite imagery products relevant to inland waters. In addition, the Water Node will create and maintain a website that disseminates imagery and data driven educational content to the general public. Dr. Lee is excited to serve CIROH's mission of bringing cutting edge research into operations and looks forward to working with all of the passionate people involved with the institute.
